Melbourne, 7 August 2007 —The Australian Businesswomen’s Network (ABN) continues to be an innovative user of web collaboration and communications technology with the launch of the Business Success Webinar Series.
Leveraging on-demand communication services from WebEx (now part of Cisco), ABN will host six online events over the next three months for businesswomen all over the country. The webinar topics are based on feedback from businesswomen in the ABN network and cover areas including Web 2.0, customer service, sales strategy, branding and marketing.
Webinars are interactive online seminars where an industry expert addresses the audience who attend the event from their own PC. Presenters can share documents and video with attendants and address audience questions in real-time.
Suzi Dafnis, National General Manager, ABN which provides business support and information to more than 19,000 businesswomen each year says, “We have lots of members in remote and regional locations who can’t always commit the time or expense required to travel to seminars. So we’re using WebEx to hold our Business Success events as a webinar series. This initiative gives women access to highly relevant knowledge from business experts regardless of their geographic location. Attendees only need internet access and a phone line to participate.
“Additionally, webinars allow us to hold these events without the associated travel and set-up costs. We can redirect resources we save by holding events online into improving our information, services and the mentoring we provide our members,” says Suzi.
The Webinar series expands on ABN’s existing use of on-demand collaboration services from WebEx. As part of the first national mentoring program for women, Mentornet, ABN uses WebEx to connect businesswomen with mentors located in geographically dispersed parts of Australia.
WebEx’s regional director for Australia and Asia, Kevin Mackin, says, “The ABN is really thinking outside the square when it comes to communicating with its stakeholders. The adoption of webinars for this type of one-to-many communication has begun to take off and is becoming a standard part of the marketing mix.”
The ABN expects interest and participation in the webinar series to grow quickly. “We know that businesswomen want to stay abreast of best practices in areas covered in the series but they don’t necessarily have the resources to identify the professional development opportunities or read all the books! The webinars are a fun and innovative way to deliver what they need for their continued business success,“ says Suzi.
